Emergency Readiness and Disaster Response
Gig Harbor must be ready when disaster strikes. As Fire Commissioner, I will prioritize proactive planning, community education, and ensuring our first responders have the staffing, equipment, training, and support they need to protect our community while delivering the high-quality service we all deserve.
Preparedness means more than responding effectively — it means anticipating risks before they become crises. Whether it's wildfire, earthquake, severe weather, hazardous materials incidents, or large-scale medical emergencies, we must have clear, well-practiced plans in place. I will advocate for investments in modern response tools, interagency coordination, and continuous training to keep our teams sharp and our systems ready.
Equally important is public engagement. Our community should be informed and empowered with the knowledge needed to act safely and confidently during emergencies. That includes supporting public outreach programs, neighborhood preparedness efforts, and accessible communication channels that keep residents informed when it matters most.
By focusing on readiness, resilience, and collaboration, we can ensure Gig Harbor remains not just a safe place to live—but a community that is truly prepared for whatever lies ahead.
Service and Communication
Having a Fire Commissioner with integrity—someone who listens with an open mind—is essential. I pledge to actively seek input from both our community members and our firefighters to remain well-informed on the issues that affect their daily lives. I am committed to transparent communication and will clearly share our plans and decision-making processes as we work to address those issues together.
I believe public service begins with listening—not just during election season, but every day that follows. That means being available, attending community events, visiting fire stations, and keeping an open line of communication with residents, staff, and labor representatives alike. When people feel heard, they are more likely to trust that their concerns are being addressed with care and respect.
Transparency builds trust. I will advocate for open governance practices, regular public updates, and clear explanations for how and why decisions are made. Whether we’re discussing budget priorities, service levels, or long-term planning, the community deserves to be part of the conversation every step of the way.
This role isn’t just about oversight—it’s about partnership. By building strong relationships, practicing open dialogue, and staying rooted in integrity, we can ensure Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One continues to serve with excellence and earns the confidence of those it protects.
Strategic Planning and Fiscal Responsibility
A key part of that commitment is the responsible and transparent management of our department’s financial resources. Taxpayer dollars must be spent wisely, with clear priorities, open communication, and measurable outcomes. I will advocate for regular financial reviews, clear reporting, and strategic budgeting that ensures our firefighters and paramedics have what they need—without placing an undue burden on our residents.
I also promise to explore every opportunity to secure additional funding through State and Federal grants, partnerships, or public safety programs that can offset costs and expand capabilities. Whether it’s equipment upgrades, station improvements, or specialized training, these resources can strengthen our district without compromising local budgets.
Careful planning and financial stewardship today will ensure that Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One remains strong, responsive, and resilient for generations to come.
